The Metallic model takes the WaterRower concept in a more industrial direction. The aluminum frame removes the warmth of wood — and replaces it with something sharper: a minimal, almost sculptural presence that holds its own in spaces where wood would feel out of place.

What remains unchanged is the rowing experience. The water tank still produces the same smooth, self-regulated resistance and the quiet sound that many people find surprisingly calming — regardless of how serious the machine looks from across the room.

WaterRower was designed in the mid-1980s by Yale graduate and U.S. National Team rower John Duke, who founded WATERROWER Inc. in 1988 in Rhode Island, in the northeastern United States.

Inspired by the natural movement of rowing on water, Duke developed a rowing machine that used a water flywheel to recreate the smooth, self-regulated resistance of a real boat.

More than three decades later, WaterRower continues to manufacture its machines in Rhode Island, where the company remains headquartered in the small coastal town of Warren.
