The Fiver | Short bar

A full barbell is 2.2 metres long, and most spare rooms disagree. The Fiver is five feet, or 153 cm, and sits somewhere between an Olympic bar and a curl bar. It's short enough for the corner of a room, the boot of a car or a patch of grass, and long enough for pushing and pulling: presses, rows, curls. It weighs 12 kg, has a 28 mm stainless shaft and built-in collars, and is rated to 400 kg.

It won't host a powerlifting meet. It will go wherever you train next.

For about a century the barbell didn't change, and neither did its weak point: the collar. It's the part that holds the plates in place, and in practice it pinches fingers, slips mid-set and goes missing. In 2018, a small team in Oslo built the collar into the bar. SlideLock is a titanium slider and a magnet. You load the plate, flick the slider and lift, and there's nothing to lose. Every piece in the range is built around it. The name comes from Odin's spear, the one that never missed.
